China's Figure Skaters Under Probe After Displaying Prop Weapon during Competition

The International Skating Union are conducting an investigation after two Chinese figure skaters were seen with an object resembling a toy ballistic missile at an international skating competition.

Television footage captured Ren Junfei and Xing Jianing sitting alongside a sizable prop shaped like a rocket labeled “DF-61” as they awaited their scores in the “kiss and cry” zone on Saturday.

The DF-61 is a recently introduced China-produced ground-launched intercontinental ballistic missile capable of carrying nuclear weapons, which was unveiled during a national ceremony last month.

Officials have acknowledged of an unsuitable soft toy seems to have been one of the objects tossed onto the ice by spectators following a routine during the competition,” the organization stated via a release.

The item was then held by the skaters who had just performed. The ISU regrets the incident and will look into it more deeply.”

The duo placed eighth out of ten teams in the ice dance event, which was won by the American pair of the United States.
