Courageous Train Employee Receives Life-Threatening Wounds During Mass Stabbing Attack on Express Service

A courageous railway staff member who stepped in to protect passengers during a mass stabbing attack on a high-speed train has suffered life-threatening wounds, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

Details of the Frightening Incident

Surveillance video allegedly shows the staff member attempting to halt the attacker as the train journeyed between Peterborough and another station in the county. Bystanders recounted a frightening 14-minute period after the train left Peterborough, with injured passengers running through carriages.

The suspect, a 32-year-old British national from Peterborough, is in custody for interrogation. Authorities announced a significant incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in downtown London.

Crisis Reaction and Aftermath

The event on the weekend resulted in 11 people being cared for in medical facilities after the train made an unscheduled stop at the station in Huntingdon. Five people have now been released from medical care.

A bystander recorded the individual brandishing a large knife and being shot with a Taser as he confronted police on the platform. He was allegedly heard shouting, "Kill me, kill me."

“This was a horrific attack that has had a wide impact. Our sympathies go out to the injured and their loved ones – especially the courageous member of train personnel whose relatives are being supported by specialist personnel,” stated a high-ranking law enforcement officer.

Labor Reaction and Calls for Measures

Train associations were swift to commend staff and demand increased measures. A union official said he would be “requesting urgent discussions with authorities, rail employers and law enforcement to ensure that we have the best possible assistance, tools and robust procedures in place”.

A different association representative encouraged the train operator and authorities “to act quickly to review security, to support the impacted workers, and to make sure that no incident like this happens again”.

Operator Commended for Rapid Action

The train driver who halted the service at Huntingdon was reported as being “deeply affected” but “good”, and has been praised by association officials for doing “precisely what was needed”.

“He didn’t halt the train in the middle of two stops where it’s clearly difficult for the emergency services to reach, but he carried on going until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the assistance was almost waiting,” stated a union representative.

Further Information

Police said they got the first emergency calls at 7:39 pm, and the service was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

An observer recounted at first wondering if the situation was a holiday joke, but quickly realized from people's faces that it was real.

Authorities have confirmed there is no evidence to suggest the incident was a terrorist attack and have asked the community to provide with any additional details.

Rail services on the impacted line are expected to experience disruption until the following day, with travelers advised to postpone their journeys where possible.

Individuals with information that could assist the inquiry are encouraged to reach police by texting a specific number with a case code.
