Exploring a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Poop with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have encountered a variety of interesting indie games. Yet, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game includes a protagonist that is actually a dung trying to make its way to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" translates to "poop."

Player controls is straightforward: press a one button to leap. Throughout 150 challenges, battle tough enemies and unlock a market to buy skins for your fecal avatar.

Plan your jumps carefully, since one wrong move forces starting over. Jump on floating orbs to propel yourself upward, cross crumbling platforms, and interact with switches to unlock hidden paths. Gather coins and use them on challenging game content as the action gets crazy.

Graphically, the demo boasts vibrant environments and catchy soundtrack. The retro visual style with morphing basic polygons may remind fans of classic titles like Earthbound.

While it's tough to think of previous releases where you play as a piece of feces, gaming often featured fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, players craft explosives from character excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as soil enrichment. And of course, this theme appears heavily in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Despite its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already received impressive accolades, including being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is available now on Steam, with the final release scheduled to launch on PC in the fall.
